Hi,
I am looking for a file called vocaleye.jaw. This used to be on the nfbnet website and their ftp site, but is no longer there. The file was a comparison between jaws for dos and vocal eyes written by ted henter. If anyone has this file, could you send it to me? Thanks
Also, I am looking for the files that were on the jaws for dos extra / alt synths disk that came with jaws version 2.31. This disk included support for the sound blaster card, as well as a few other external synthesizers such as the apolo 2. It also included a improved version of install.dat, the script used in the jaws installation process, which rectified problems with jaws for dos and the dectalk express.
Any help with getting these files would be appreciated.
I'd strongly recommend trying on the Blind-L list, since there are a large number of DOS users there. You can easily find their address by looking them up. However, when I tried to join, I kept getting an error message and had to have the administrator manually add me. If that's the case with you, send me a message and your e-mail and I'll give it to him so that he could add you. I too would be very interested in reading that comparason between JAWS and VocalEyes. Have you tried the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine? They can often find pages that no longer exist and let you download the content. I know that Freedom Scientific has JAWS for DOS on their downloads page (under older downloads once you go to the regular link) but am not sure if it comes with the enhancements. But I do have the 3.3 disk, which, if I remember correctly, has 2.0 on it as well. So I could look for you if all else fails. Good luck and keep us posted.
does your jaws 2.0 have an authorization disk e.g. can you install and use it? jaws 2.0 is for windows and so it wouldn't have the enhancements as they are for jaws for dos. i have tried the internet archive but i can't download the files, i can see them though. when i try and download the file, i get a message saying the file is not archived at the internet archive. P.s. just to remind you, you haven't sent those dos links and your essay yet. :)
Ooh shit! I'll do that now. Sorry.
no problem. by the way, i could not subscribe to the blind-l list. my email address is RyanHornibrook@aol.com
Crap, the ftp site is gone too? I remember asking awhile back if it was but I don't think I ever got a response. I tried connecting in file zilla, and I guess I just assumed the address had changed.
Perhaps, we should write to the NFB and explain that there are still some people out there who use and who need these files. Maybe, they'd be willing to put the pages back for us.
i tried requesting vocaleye.jaw, but they just said its an old file and if its not on the website, then its gone and they can't do anything about it and they basically said it probably took up space, and they asked me who would want such an old file anyway etc.
Really? What assholes. Of course this is the nfb we're talking about, but if the files have disappeared they should have the decency to take the whole site down if they want to whine about space being taken up.
Yeah really! I bet that file was a few kb. I mean, it's a text file for goodness sakes! And the DOS programs take up gigabytes? I don't think so. You can fit a bunch onto a single standard 1.44mb floppy! Stupid people.
